Frequently Asked Questions

1. HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO HAVE MY LIFTING EQUIPMENT INSPECTED?

All lifting equipment should be visually inspected by the user before every use. In addition to this, periodic inspections should also be completed and documented by a competent person.

Some equipment can be tested onsite with our load cells, test weights and pad eye tester. For all other equipment, we have a 100T test bed at our facility in Kardinya.

Yes, we custom make both single and multi-leg chain slings to required lengths and configurations as well as fabric slings. All our chain slings are assembled and tested complying to AS3775.1 and .2 and have Test Certificates.

Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) is the globally recognised trade association for all involved in the design, manufacture, hire, repair, maintenance, and use of lifting equipment.

Perth Lifting Equipment offer a range of custom solutions as well as off the shelf products. We have assisted in projects from general workshop needs to specific projects lifting over 300Tn.

1. What are the key Australian Standards for lifting equipment in WA?

In WA, lifting equipment must comply with key standards such as AS 1418 for cranes, hoists, and winches, AS 2759 for wire rope slings, and AS 1353 for flat synthetic web slings, among others. Our products are fully compliant with all relevant Australian Standards, ensuring your operations are safe and legally sound.

Equipment should be visually inspected by a competent person before each use. A thorough examination and certification by a LEEA-certified technician is required at least every 12 months, or more frequently depending on the application and industry regulations.

Chain slings are durable and can withstand high temperatures and abrasive environments, making them ideal for heavy, rugged lifting. Wire rope slings, while also strong, are more flexible and often used for general-purpose rigging, offering a high strength-to-weight ratio.

LEEA stands for Lifting Equipment Engineers Association. Having LEEA-certified technicians means our team has undergone rigorous training and is recognised internationally for their expertise in the inspection, maintenance, and testing of lifting equipment, guaranteeing the highest level of safety and compliance for your projects.

Absolutely. We specialise in tailoring equipment to your specific needs. Our LEEA-certified technicians can design and fabricate custom wire rope or chain slings and other fittings to meet your unique project requirements.

Proof load testing involves applying a load greater than the working load limit (WLL) to equipment to physically prove its integrity. It is mandatory in Australia after manufacturing, repairs, or modifications to ensure the equipment is safe for use. We perform NATA-accredited proof load testing in-house.

Both are made from polyester, but a web sling is a flat-woven belt, ideal for general-purpose lifting. A round sling consists of a continuous loop of polyester yarn inside a protective cover, offering more flexibility and often a higher capacity for its size, making it great for choking or wrapping around irregular loads.
